The family of Allen Lindblad is saddened to announce his death on November 15, 2023 in Munich, Germany following complications of a liver transplant. He was 43 years old. Allen is survived by his wife Beth, his son Jonathan, his mother Carol Phelps plus many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Allen was born and grew up in Delta, Colorado. He graduated from Delta High School in 1998. He attended Mesa College and the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado graduating in December, 2001, with a BA degree in Education, Speech and Communication. He taught 5th grade in LaSalle, Colorado for three years. In 2005 he married Beth Lindblad. After their wedding they moved to El Salvador and taught in the American School. While in El Salvador, Allen completed his MA degree in Education Leadership from Farmingham State College. In 2008 they moved to Erlangen, Germany to teach in the Franconian International School. Allen was director of Educational Technology. His love of learning and dedication to each assignment made him a cherished member of each school.
Allen had many health issues throughout his life. At age five he had heart surgery, at age nine he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and while in college he was diagnosed with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC) an autoimmune condition which affects the liver. He was told he would need a liver transplant in 18-20 years. Allen never let those things stop him from living his life to the fullest. He loved to hike, bike, rock climb, swim, ski, scuba dive, do photography and travel. He and his family had many adventures traveling the world. He especially enjoyed sharing the wonders of nature with his son, Jonathan. Allen was happiest spending time with family and friends often offering the encouragement they needed.
Allen’s main goal was to add life and love to the world. He used many of his experiences as “teachable moments” to help others learn and live well. This post he wrote describes him best:
“I am thankful for family and friends, as well as the amazing wonders found in daily life. Here’s hoping the world can also share these joys, put aside differences and embrace the empathy and caring in what we call humanity.”
A service was held in Erlangen, Germany in December. As a Memorial please sign up to be an organ donor and spread kindness wherever you go.
