Near sunrise on Tuesday, October 22, Anthony Morgan Buxton peacefully passed away at the age of 80. Born May 20, 1944 in Annapolis, Maryland, he was the son of Charles Lee and Helen (Rotch) Buxton. He studied at the San Francisco Art Institute and Boston University. Anthony married Katherine Kimball on December 21, 1974. They had two daughters and two sons and were divorced in 1991. A longtime resident of Paonia, he loved the mountains and was known as a local artist, creating numerous murals, paintings, and drawings. Anthony was predeceased by his sister Katherine, who died in infancy, and his brother Timothy, who died as a missionary in Africa. He is also survived by a brother, Edward Buxton, and his wife, Linda, of Eugene, Oregon, and a sister, Lucinda Lawton, of Valley Center, California. He leaves behind his children, Luli Buxton of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Eli Buxton, also of Milwaukee, Janani Buxton and her husband, Paul Pattyn, of Portland, Oregon, and David Buxton and his wife, Mariya Elverum, of St. Paul, Minnesota, and two young grandchildren, Seraphina and Lochlan Elverum Buxton. His children are grateful to have been able to enjoy this time together with their father, and to honor his wishes of spending his last days at home. As Anthony often stated at the end of his life, “all is well.”
