Barbara Ann Grosse-Rhode

Barbara Ann Grosse-Rhode passed away Sunday, December 11, 2022, at Colorow Care Center in Olathe, Colorado. She was 85 years old.
Graveside service will be held Thursday, December 15th, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Paonia, Colorado. A celebration of life service will be held in the Spring of 2023.
Barbara was born on June 5, 1937, to Emma (Kaelin) and Jesse H. Hohman in Ansley, Nebraska. She spent her childhood in the Westerville and Dry Valley area of Nebraska. After graduating from Westerville High School in 1955, she continued her education at Nebraska State Teachers College at Kearney.
In 1957, Barbara married Carl Farmer; they later moved to Denver, Colorado, where they raised their three children.
Barbara made her way to the Western Slope of Colorado from the Littleton area in 1991. She married Norbert William (NW) Grosse-Rhode in 1995. They made their home in Paonia while working on their nearby ranch. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She volunteered at the Paonia Library and supported the North Fork Auxiliary of the Ambulance District. She was part of the “Neighborly Neighbors” and the “Red Hats” in Paonia. She enjoyed photography, gardening, music, reading, crocheting, and sewing. And mostly, she loved chocolate.
Barbara is survived by her three children: Vi Farmer Garcia of Denver, Colorado; Anthony (Susan) Farmer of Easton, Connecticut, and Pamela (Kevin) Hinrichs of Brighton, Colorado; seven stepchildren; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, brother Vern Hohman, sister Darlene Reckling, husband NW, and two stepsons.
