Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Betty Morgan, passed away peacefully at the age of 77 at her home in Delta, Colorado, on August 13, 2024. Born on June 21, 1947, in Paonia, Colorado, she was the daughter of June Leiper and James de Graffenried. She grew up in the Hotchkiss area and graduated from Hotchkiss High School. She went on to have a successful career at Coors in Golden, Social Security Office, and the medical clinic in Paonia.
Betty met Michael Morgan and got married in December of 1970. She shared over half a century (53 years) with her best friend.
Betty loved to be outdoors, fishing. Camping, reading, knitting and her naked chicken wings! Betty loved all animals, but especially her dogs, cats and fish named Fred. She was an avid gardener and plant enthusiast. She brought more beauty into the world with her roses, tulips, petunias, and various other plants she restored from the clearance aisle at Wal-Mart. Betty was a loving, caring wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was always there to listen and offer a shoulder to cry on. She is being greatly missed.
Betty is survived by her spouse, Michael of Delta; her son, Edward Morgan (wife Consuelo) from Grand Junction; her daughter, Michele Skerl (husband Joe) from Crawford; her grandchildren, Jessica Bustamante (husband Andrew) from El Paso, TX, Erin Middleton (husband Jon) from Sacramento, CA, Erica Morgan (fiancé Rylee Rodvelt) from Horton, KS, and Gabrielle Skerl from Portland OR; her two great-grandchildren and two additional, soon to be born, great-grandchildren.
Betty is preceded in death by her son, Jerry Love; mother; father; sister, Dee Ann; and her brothers, Lyle, Larry, Teddy and Wallace de Graffenried.
A memorial service will be held on August 19, 2024, at 2:30 PM, at Taylor Funeral Service in Delta, followed by a graveside service at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Paonia.
Honorary Pallbearers, Joe Skerl, Andrew Bustamante, Jon Middleton, and Rylee Rodvelt.
We had a wonderful mother,
And that’s the way it will always be.
But take heed, because
She’s still keeping an eye on all of us,
So let’s make sure
She will like what she sees.
