Carol Ann Key

January 29, 1936 — March 31, 2024

Eckert, Colorado

Carol Ann Key passed away on March 31st, 2024, at Horizons in Eckert Colorado after a brief illness. She was 88 years old.

Carol was born on January 29th, 1936, in Delta, Colorado to Vern and Nettie (TeGrotenhuis) Myers. She spent her early childhood in Gunnison Colorado on her family’s sheep ranch then with her family as they moved on to different states, ending up in Bellflower, California where she graduated from high school and attended college. She graduated from Long Beach State College in 1955 with her BA in Elementary Education.

She began teaching and also started to date Nathan Key. They were married three months later. They were blessed with two daughters, Carol Schluter (Kent) of Davenport, Washington and Katherine Key (Greg Kreiling) of Hotchkiss, Colorado. They had five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren as well as one step-granddaughter.

Carol stopped teaching to raise her two daughters and embraced being a wife, mother, and homemaker for many years. Carol and husband Nat moved to Grand Junction in 1967 and enjoyed many happy years there raising their two daughters and enjoying gathering with family and friends for many years before they moved to Cedaredge for their retirement years. She was a Christian and belonged to a non-denominational church. She had a great love for God and Jesus, her family and friends and enjoyed reading her bible and spending time in fellowship with others.

Carol loved to work outside tending flowers and plants and keeping her yard beautiful. She had a knack for making pretty bouquets out of flowers and greens from her yard. She was an inspired cook and crafter and often delighted family and friends with her creations. In her later years she loved to read and spent long hours immersed in her stories. Carol lost her husband Nat in 2017.

Carol is survived by both daughters and their husbands and all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her beloved brother Ken, of Cedaredge, survives her as well.
