Delta

Carolyn Sue Clemens passed away July 20th, 2024 in her home in Delta, Colorado at the age of 78. Carolyn was born in Long Beach, California on June 17th, 1946 to Ophelia (Douglas) Erickson and Robert Erickson. She spent her early childhood in Arkansas, with the family moving to California afterward. She graduated High School, worked at Oscar Mayer, got married to Jerry (who also worked at Oscar Mayer), and then had children in California before moving to Cedaredge in 1978, to then spend the rest of her life in Delta County. She has one surviving brother, Gary Mark Erickson, who continues to reside in California.

Carolyn would marry the love of her life, Gerald (Jerry) Clemens on August 31st, 1968 in Downey, California after Jerry spent four years in the United States Navy. They later had two children, Sandy (deceased) and Jeff.

After first moving to Cedar Mesa in 1978, the family moved down to Eckert 2 years later and bought a small cabin by Surface Creek, which they worked on and improved for over 45 years, building it into their dream home. Shortly after moving to Delta County, Carolyn was eager to join the Delta County chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, and was an active member for many years. She enjoyed candle making, computers, cooking, and home making. She worked at the Delta County Courthouse as an Administrative Assistant to the County Commissioners for almost 40 years, lending a helping hand to the citizens of Delta County for decades. She also helped to restore a downtown Delta building that the family purchased in 1994 at 326 Main Street, which then became the Columbine Village Mall, a creative assortment of commercial rental spaces, offices and a variety of restaurants over the years.

Carolyn died peacefully at home after a long bout with Dementia. She is survived by her brother Gary, and her son Jeff. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jerry, and her daughter, Sandy Clemens.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
