On the morning of August 23rd, 2024, Connie Harris was called into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She passed away peacefully in her dream farm home in Hotchkiss, Colorado, after an enduring battle with lung cancer.
Constance "Connie" Sue Harris was born on the 8th of December, 1967, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, to her mother, Victoria Mitchell and father, Charles “Chuck” Harris. In 1970, her mother married John Hutson, and the family grew to include two younger sisters, Katherine "Kathy" and Suzanna "Shelly" Hutson (Stone). In 1986, the young family chose to make Montrose, Colorado their home, after a vacation in the San Juan Mountains captured Connie’s mother's heart.
Connie had her first child, Charles "Charlie" Michael Nutter, in 1989, and later married to grow her own family, with the birth of Alan Cole Stowe in 1997 and David James Stowe in 1998. Later in life, Connie naturally filled the role of loving and supportive grandmother to her nine grandchildren: Bryan, Chloey, Abel, Kyson, Aubrielle, Willow, Kennedy, Madison, and soon-to-be Waverly.
Throughout her life, she lived in various places across Colorado’s Western Slope and spent considerable time in Utah, Nevada, Idaho, and New Mexico. Connie often spoke of her deep affection for West Virginia, visiting her grandmother, Mary Lou Mitchell, whenever she could. She worked a wide variety of jobs and did what she could to improve her standing in life. She eventually found her slice of West Virginia, living on a farm in a loving home in Hotchkiss, Colorado, with her significant other, Ray Penland, until her final days.
An avid reader, gardener, cook and having a great passion for music - Connie was remarkably bright, quick-witted, and outspoken, making a name for herself wherever she went. Despite facing long years of hardships, she was incredibly resilient and determined to live life on her own terms, and people loved and respected her for it. She cherished her close friendships, maintained a loving bond with her sisters, and shared a special connection with her Aunt Jenny and Grandmother Mitchell. Yet, nothing was more important to Connie than her grandchildren.
Connie was preceded in death by her mother, Victoria Hutson, grandmother, Mary Lou Mitchell, and father, Charles "Chuck" Harris. She is survived by her three sons, her nine grandchildren, her sisters, her stepfather, her aunts, uncle, her cousins, her nieces and nephew, her significant other, and the many friends she made along the way.
(This quote is from Connie's Facebook in her “about” tab.) “Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead, where there is no path and leave a trail. Make the most of yourself, for that is all there is of you.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
