Crawford, Colorado

Donald Thomas Skinner passed away March 8, 2024, in Grand Junction, Colorado after a short fight with cancer. He was 76 years old.

Don was born in Elgin, Illinois on December 14, 1947, to Willard Fred Skinner and Grace Emma Rieke. He grew up in Elgin and graduated from Elgin High School on June 10, 1965.

His love for working on cars has been lifelong, after high school he worked at a gas station and garage where he worked on cars.

Don met Julee Ann McOmber and they were married May 24, 2003. They were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple September 30, 2005. Don and Julee celebrated 20 years together.

Don and Julee made their way to Crawford in 2005. His dream was always to live in the Colorado mountains. He loved to look at the mountains and often said how lucky he was to live his dream. Don worked at Harley Davidson Insurance in Arizona where he managed over 100 employees. In Colorado he got his CDL to enable him to drive all over the Rocky Mountains. He drove gas trucks, cement trucks, propane trucks, even a school bus. Don retired at 67. Don loved working on his ’54 5 window Chevy truck that he restored. He loved to reload his own ammo and loved collecting guns. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved taking his jeep out for rides through the mountains as well. He loved working in the garage with his black lab buddy. Don enjoyed working on the 40 acres. Especially loved to sit on the deck and watch the sunset.

Don belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and enjoyed his calling as a financial clerk. Don loved going to church.

Don is survived by his three children from a previous marriage, Jessica Lynne Skinner, Donald Thomas Skinner Jr., and Allison Rebecca Skinner; his wife Julee Ann Skinner and her children, Tamera Lynn Abate, Tiffany Ann Shepherd, Tawnya Alicia Hansen, Tyson Randall Law, and Taylor Randall Law; and his brother, David Skinner.
