Long-time Cedaredge resident, Geneva Curry, passed away on September 1. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., September 11, at the First Baptist Church of Cedaredge.
Geneva May Wortley Curry was born in Woodland, Michigan, in 1933. Growing up, she always dreamed of moving west and marrying a cowboy. As a teen, her family moved to Colorado where she met and later married Wayne Curry, a ranch foreman. They worked on large cattle ranches near Cheyenne and Saratoga, Wyoming, before coming to Cedaredge in the late 1950s to raise a family.
They were active members of First Baptist Church of Cedaredge where Geneva served as the church librarian and assisted in children’s and missions ministries. She also worked as the assistant librarian at Cedaredge High School. A gifted writer, Geneva compiled area histories, wrote plays and skits, and published several short stories. Her creativity, wit, and compassion will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Wayne, and is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Ron) McGrew and Betty (Lanny) Conley, two grandchildren, Heather Ross and Andrew Conley, three brothers, Harold, Ron (Sue), and Dave (Sandy) Wortley, and two step-brothers, Bill (Andrea) and Jim Crawford.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to HopeWest Hospice, P.O. Box 24, Delta, CO 81416.
