George Arthur McCabe

George McCabe passed away on August 27, 2024, at the VA hospital in Grand Junction. He was 79 years old.

George was born on February 3, 1945, in San Diego, CA to Hollis & Helen McCabe. He grew up in Hotchkiss where he graduated from Hotchkiss High School. 

George spent 4 years in the Air Force where he served in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. He returned to Hotchkiss to work for the local telephone company for the next 42 years before retiring.

His interests were hunting, fishing, camping and riding ATV in the mountains. George’s real passion was target shooting and reloading for his guns.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church and a trustee for many years with the church. He also served on the Hotchkiss Town Council for 17 years. 

George is survived by his wife, Jan; son, Kevin (Melanie) McCabe of Grand Junction; and daughter, Karen (Jim) Henderson of Burlington, OK. He has two granddaughters, Samatha Henderson of Grand Junction and Makalah Henderson of Burlington, OK. He has a great grandchild, Lonny 5th. He is also survived by two brothers, Don (Jane) McCabe of Orland, CA and Dan (Lynda) McCabe of Fruita, CO.

Services will be held at the First Baptist Church on September 23, 2024 @ 10:00. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church at PO Box 26, Hotchkiss, CO 81419.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
