Ida Louise Case passed away peacefully on Christmas night in Hotchkiss, CO after a short illness. She was 87 years old.
Ida was born on September 1, 1937, in Craig, CO – the youngest of three children to Sam and Addie Carr (Myers).
Ida’s mother passed away when she was just two years old – leaving her as the only girl in the family of a working cowboy and two older brothers. She spent her childhood in Brown’s Park, CO and her youth was filled with tales of cattle rustlers and bandits that sounded like it came straight out of Western novel.
It was this upbringing that molded the authentic Western cowgirl we all knew – a tough and feisty firecracker who didn’t sugarcoat a thing.
Like any good cowgirl, Ida developed a love of horses at a young age, and it was horses that eventually led her to a track in Ruidoso Downs, NM where she met Charles Case.
The two raised three children (Kimberly, Theodore and Margie) in Arkansas City, KS where she worked at Cessna Aircraft.
In the early ‘80s, she returned to her beloved native state with a move to Gypsum, CO where she worked as a clerk before eventually landing in Hotchkiss, CO – the town in which she would spend the rest of her life.
Ida had a quick wit and great sense of humor. She loved the outdoors and was an avid arrowhead hunter with a passion for Native American and Western history and artifacts. She maintained a love of horses and cowboying throughout her life – as anyone who made the mistake of calling and interrupting Sunday night rodeo would be quickly reminded.
She was blessed to be a part of a tight-knit Hotchkiss community of neighbors and friends who were always there for her.
Ida was preceded in death by her parents Sam and Addie Carr; her former husband Charles Case; and her sister-in-law Pat Carr. Her son Theodore Case passed away shortly after her death.
She is survived by two daughters, Kimberly Roark of Overland Park, KS and Margie Case of Arkansas City, KS; two brothers, Ted Carr (Phyllis) of Albuquerque, NM and Norman Carr of Paonia, CO; six grandchildren Sean Roark (Mika) of Olathe, KS, Stephanie Faires (Chris) of Wichita, KS, Tyson Case (Rachel) of Wichita, KS, Victoria McKay (Christian) of Ft. Worth, TX, Julia Case of Wichita, KS, and Jackson Case (Bianca) of Andover, KS; and 14 great-grandchildren, Nathaniel, Mason, Isabella, Caleb, Jaxon, Mikayla, Calli, Colbi, Charlie, Ariana, Emerie, Finn, Manoah and Thea.
A celebration of life will take place in the spring of 2025 at a time and place yet to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in her memory to Hope West Hospice, 195 Stafford Lane, Delta, Colorado 81416 or to a charity of your choosing.
