The Lord took Jack Porter on May 24, 2020. Jack was born in Gunnison, Colorado on July 20, 1930, and was making plans for his 90th birthday when he passed. Jack went to high school in Gunnison, and upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and gained the rank of Staff Sergeant before leaving the Service. Returning home, he enrolled in Western State College, earning degrees in math and education, and married fellow classmate Ruth Taylor after completing his degrees. They then went on to MIT in Boston for a master's degree in engineering and computer science.
Leaving Boston, Jack was hired by Western Electric for the NORAD SAGE Project, installing radar systems along the northern border of the United States. This was an exciting time for the Porters, many new places and new faces. When twins Patricia and Patrick were born, it was time to stop moving and he went to work for Mountain Bell in Denver, Colorado. Upon retiring from Mountain Bell, the family moved from Evergreen to Cedaredge to care for aging parents. A mountain cabin brought much joy to the family. Fishing, ATVing, snowmobiling, and hiking were daily activities.
We are sorry to lose Jack, but he had a very happy life, and we are thankful to have had him. A memorial service will The Lord took Jack Porter on May 24, 2020.
