James "Jim" William Carpenter

Hotchkiss, Colorado

James “Jim” William Carpenter passed away at the Delta Hospital on December 27th, 2024. He was 82 years old.

 James was born on November 24th, 1942, to James Wayne and Doris Carpenter on the family farm in Hotchkiss, CO. He attended school (1st-12th grades) in Hotchkiss, graduating in 1960. During his school years he worked on farms and ranches of friends. He also worked for the Town of Hotchkiss and Van Oort Trucking.

 On September 8th, 1969, James married Gladys Pagone and had their son Carl on November 26th, 1971.

 James had his own trucking business hauling coal. His many other endeavors included Delta County Road Department. U.S. Steel coal mining in Somerset, Red Hat Produce, Tri-county Gravel as a truck driver. When he semi-retired, he continued to drive truck for E.C.O. Contracting LLC and hauling for different places until 2022. James was a volunteer for Hotchkiss Fire Department, a member of the Hotchkiss B.P.O.E. Elks lodge on the Bone Mesa Domestic Water Board and a ditch rider for the Short Ditch.

 In his down time James enjoyed 4-wheeling, fishing, horseback riding, and going to Black Mesa to the bus that had been made into a camper.

 James was proceeded in death by his parents, James Wayne and Doris, his grandparents-Carpenters and Surrozs, Sister, Uncle Ernest Surroz, Aunt Josie Minerich, and the beloved dog Toby.

 James is survived by his loving wife Gladys Carpenter (Pagone), son Carl (Latha) Carpenter, two grandchildren-Kegan and Kyle, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
