Jerry L. Gastineau passed away at Willow Tree Care Center in Delta, Colorado, he was 76 years old.
Services will be held July 1st, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home in Delta, CO followed by graveside services at the City of Delta Cemetery.
Jerry was born on September 12th, 1947, In Delta, Colorado to Winnie Elnora Mercer and Byron Luther Gastineau. Jerry was born and raised in Delta and graduated from Delta High School in May of 1965. While attending Delta High School Jerry earned his position as 2nd baseman and in 1963 was part of the team to bring home the first DHS State Baseball Championship.
Jerry enlisted and proudly served our Country through the armed forces in the U.S. Army, Battery B, 6th Battalion, 84th Artillery during the Vietnam war. Jerry received recognition for his exceptional meritorious service and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal. Jerry was honorably discharged as a testimonial of his honest and faithful service May 1st, 1973.
Jerry has been a resident of Delta for 76 years. He worked as a Journeyman Electrician for Colorado West Electric, Eberhart Electric and Kirstetter Electric Inc. Jerry purchased the Smith Carwash and ran and operated the carwash for several years. When not working he enjoyed his muscle cars the infamous El Camino and Chevelle, his Weimaraner dogs, Nascar, model trains, 4-wheeling, baseball and golf. Jerry was a member of the Delta B.P.O.E. Elks lodge #1235 for 48 years and received Elk of the Year award for the 1990-91 year. Jerry was quite a character and true to form really enjoyed dressing up and participating in Halloween festivities. Jerry found great pride in watching his boys and then his grandkids play the sports they loved. Some of Jerry’s most memorable sayings were, “right on”, “she’s neat”, and “boob tube”.
Jerry is survived by his two sons; Jared Gastineau and his wife Trudy of Delta Colorado, and Jordan Gastineau and his wife Angie of Cedaredge Colorado, his brother Roger Gastineau and his wife Rowena of Grass Valley, California, Dennis Gastineau and his wife Suzie of Cave Creek, Arizona, his sister Bonnie Malast and her husband John of Fountain Valley, California, his sister in-law Delora, Chuck’s wife of Lancaster, California, his five grandchildren Megan, Michelle, Luke, Nicholas and Madison.
Jerry was proceeded in death by His parents Byron and Winnie Gastineau and His brother Charles Lee “Chuck” Gastineau.
