Paonia resident, Joyce Ann Chapdelaine, passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at HopeWest Care Center in Grand Junction, Colorado. She was 90.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 18, 2022 at Scared Heart Catholic Church in Paonia, CO.
Joyce Ann Chapdelaine was born to John and Lois (Tuskey) Whelihan in Detroit, Michigan on February 3rd, 1932. She spent her childhood in Detroit and Pinnebog Michigan. She graduated from Pigeon High School in 1949. She furthered her education and graduated from Providence Hospital School of Nursing in Detroit Michigan.
On April 23 1955, Joyce married Willard Joseph “Tiny” Chapdelaine in Pinnebog, Michigan. Upon their marriage, they adopted five children. The Chapdelaine’s resided in Ludington, Michigan, from 1958-1962; and Orange, California, from 1962-1970, before settling in the North Fork Valley in 1970.
Joyce was a Nurse (R.N.) at Delta County Memorial Hospital for 20 years and retired in 1995. Joyce was a dedicated Catholic, humble and grateful woman. More importantly, Joyce was a devoted wife of 59 years, an exceptional mother, a giving grandmother and wonderful great grandmother, who was thankful for all she had. She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, she taught, with enthusiasm, Catechism classes, and embraced volunteering at the elementary school. Her interests ranged from being an avid bowler, to hiking the mountains, cross country skiing and swimming, especially water aerobics. She was actively involved in North Fork Senior Center and hosted her bible study group; they coined, “The Bible Babes”. Joyce was a true friend to all. She enthusiastically read her newspaper on a daily basis and didn’t feel “complete” without finishing the word scramble, crossword puzzles and comics. Her perpetual sense of humor simulated many laughs around the kitchen table and her good nature lended to a habitual love of Hallmark movies.
Joyce is survived by her children, Maria (Jim), John (Cindy), Jim (Jennifer) and Margaret (Peggy).
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Jim, Ken and Don, her husband Willard (Bill), her son Paul, and her parents John and Lois.
