Margie Ethal Nelson passed away Saturday, July 2nd, 2022, at her residence in Delta. She was 89 years old.
Graveside service will be held on Monday, July 18th, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Mesa View Cemetery in Delta, Colorado.
Margie was born on February 24th, 1933, to Ellen (Harris) and Arthur Stratman in the Kodoka, South Dakota area. Her memories of growing up really started in Price, Utah and then on a ranch in Gunnison, Colorado. She finished up schooling in Spokane, Washington at her aunt’s school. The sisters there tried to convince her to enter the convent. Later on, she continued her education at Mesa Jr College in Grand Junction, Colorado.
During college and working at home her dad hired young men to put up the hay he had raised. Margie got to know Marion LeRoy “George” Hamilton. On December 14th, 1950, they were married. They had four children. April 1st of 1965, George was taken by a rock slide at Marrow Point Dam and then passed away on the way to Montrose Hospital.
Art Nelson was introduced to the kids and later on to Margie after he had taken them fishing. Art and Margie were married on April 22, 1966.
Margie’s chosen career path was as a homemaker. She did also work as a secretary for Montrose Memorial Hospital and then was a landlord for several of her rental properties. She was a very frugal person, making the most of everything she had. Some memorable things she said, “those who waste will want” and “is your head cold” if you wore your hat inside.
Margie is survived by her children Curtis Joe (Sue) Hamilton of Montrose, CO; Casey Scott (Sarah) Hamilton of Olathe, Colorado; Connie Ellen (Colin) Hutto of Cedaredge, CO; eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Margie is preceded in death by her parents; Husband George; a stillborn baby boy Kurt; daughter Christyl Lee Hamilton and a baby granddaughter Melissa Lou Hutto.
Memorial contributions can be made in Margie’s name to HopeWest Hospice at: 195 Stafford Ln, Delta, CO 81416.
