Margot W Sykes passed away on March 24, 2025, at Delta County Hospital. She was 89 years old. Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at 10:00AM Taylor Funeral Home at 1682 1725 Rd., Delta, CO.
Margot was born on November 19th, 1935, in Germany to Margot Bevendorff and Friedrich Willmann. She grew up in Germany during World War II and thus her family was forced to live in many different locations, including some time in Poland. She was one of seven siblings. After completing high school in Germany, she went on to train to become a beautician.
She met Henry Engstrom on a blind date, he was an American serving in the Air Force in Germany. They married on May 19, 1959, and celebrated 28 years together until Henry passed away at the age of 49. She and Henry moved to America when he completed his four years of enlistment and brought with them their daughter, Diana, who was born in Germany. Margot and Henry made a life in New Jersey for all the years they were together.
As Margot got older, she followed her daughter and granddaughter to Colorado, making her home in Delta. She has resided in Crossroads assisted living for the past 3 years. Margot was a hairdresser all her life until her retirement. When not working she enjoyed traveling, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was especially proud to boast about the joy of 7 great-grandchildren and was always very proud of her three grandchildren.
Margot is survived by her daughter Diana LaFalce and son-in-law Ronald LaFalce of Cedaredge, CO; her brother Klaus Willmann and sisters Inge Simone and Christa Uftring all of Germany; her 3 grandchildren Ronald LaFalce (Matt) of Punta Gorda, Florida, Ryan LaFalce (Amanda) of Clayton N.J., and Amanda Trumbo (William) of Hotchkiss, CO. Also survived by 7 great-grandchildren, Elsie, Henrietta, Thomas, Jack, Benjamin, Oliver, and Christopher. Also survived by ex-husband Gerald Sykes.
Margot is preceded in death by her parents, Margot and Friedrich Willmann, her husband Henry Engstrom, her brothers Lothar and Heinz Willmann and her sister Ilsa Brumbaugh. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
