Marjorie E. Johnson

February 24, 1934 — December 28, 2020

Marjorie Johnson, retired postal worker, storyteller, small business owner, and child/animal advocate, passed away on December 28, 2020 in Boulder Colorado. Born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Marjorie and her late husband, Walter, moved to Delta County in 1989 from the Boulder area. She became a familiar contributor to Letters to the Editor in this publication and others throughout the region, espousing down home and sometimes slightly cantankerous opinions on local, national and universal issues.

Along with Walter, Marjorie was instrumental in founding the “Field of Dreams” athletic facility for children in Eckert. She was involved in improvement of the playground equipment at the Cedaredge Town Park and creation of the local skateboard park.

An animal lover at heart, Marjorie was instrumental in raising money for the Cedaredge Animal Shelter. Her fund-raising efforts included the self-publication of a popular compilation of animal stories written by herself and several local contributors.

For a number of years Marjorie and her partners operated the “Bossy Women” Antique shop in Eckert. This establishment became a local favorite, not just for its eclectic inventory, but for its friendly ambiance. Acquaintances may recall when she sported a cow suit in a local parade to promote the shop.

Plans for a Celebration of Life will be arranged at a later date. Contributions on her behalf should be made to the Cedaredge Animal Shelter.
