Paul Leroy Thompson

     Paul Leroy Thompson, age 83, died on February 8, 2024 at his home/ranch near Cedaredge, CO. A private graveside service is planned for immediate family. 

     Paul was born on September 6, 1940 in Akron, CO to Ralph and Buda Thompson. In 1948, the family moved to the Cedaredge Dry Creek area where he grew up on a ranch. On June 5, 1965 he married Janice Bertram and they built their home on family land near the town of Cedaredge, CO. They enjoyed 58 years of marriage.      

      Paul was a hard working family and community man. His love for family and friends was placed far above his personal needs or wants. He loved family gatherings where he could hear all that was going on with their lives. Throughout Paul’s life, animals of all kinds were important to him and were lucky to receive his special care. He also enjoyed the times he spent on Grand Mesa with family.

      He effortlessly operated many types of heavy equipment and was gifted with special skills that allowed him to make anything work with what he had available. He found great pleasure irrigating, gardening and working the land while appreciating the fruits of his labor. Paul gave his all to whatever he did and put forth all his attention and effort to the work at hand and held a special admiration for those who gave the same. 

      Paul is preceded in death by his parents and oldest brother Jack. He is survived by his wife Janice, sons Larry (Joy) Thompson of Eckert, CO and Brian (Kelli) Thompson of Cedaredge, CO, and younger brother Dale (Pat) of Tucson, AZ. He is grandfather to Rachel, Megan, Christopher, Hannah and Paige and great grandfather to Charlotte, Emmett, Ari and Aya.

      Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations could be made to the Cedaredge FFA, Cedaredge High School, 575 SE Deer Creek Drive, Cedaredge, CO 81413
