Paul Wartes, lifelong resident of Western Colorado and co-owner of A to B Movers in Glenwood Springs, died unexpectedly on March 15, 2021 at the age of 33.
Paul was born March 7, 1988 in Berlin, Germany to Alan and Linda Wartes. The family moved to Gunnison in 1992. Paul was an avid rock climber and hiker and loved being outdoors. He was a true people-person who inspired love, loyalty, and joy in all who knew him. Above all, Paul was an excellent and devoted father.
Paul is survived by his parents; his stepmother, Issa Forrest; his children, Cohan (12) and Lilyan (9); their mother, Brenan Kramp; his siblings, Athenx Wartes, Rachel Wartes, Anna (Max) Maxey, Aquene (Liz) Hudson, Ducote Hudson, Altamira Hudson, and Elle Forrest; his grandparents, John and Peg Merwin, Ron and Sara Wartes, and Lanny and Jackie Wheeler; and innumerable other friends and family.
After struggling with drug addiction in his adolescence and early adulthood, Paul had remained in successful recovery for more than five years. However, in recent months the struggle resurged and ended in an accidental overdose which took his life. He will be deeply missed by his family and community of friends.
A gofundme account has been created to benefit and support Paul’s children and can be found at
