Raymond Katzdorn was born on May 27, 1936, to Pius Katzdorn and Mary Katzdorn (Gerstner). He passed away on March 8, 2025.
He grew up in Cortez, Colorado, enjoying the mountains, San Juan territory, and exploring Rico Canyon and the surrounding area. He attended Montezuma County Schools and graduated in 1954. He entered the Army in 1958 as a 32nd Airborne, leaving the Army in 1961 with honorable discharge.
His life travels took him to Montana where he hauled crude oil, Wyoming, owning and running a fuel station, into Paradox, Colorado, where he spent a good part of 11 years farming for Redd Ranches. 1980 moved him to Hotchkiss, Colorado, where he hauled gravel and other materials until 1986, bringing him into Flagstaff, Arizona, hauling propane gas for John Graves. Ray later moved to Kingman, Arizona, where he continued to haul propane for Just Getting By and Dynamic Concepts. Ray retired in 2011, residing in Chloride, Arizona. Ray moved to Cedaredge, Colorado, in 2024 until his death on March 8, 2025.
Ray is survived by his 10 children: Christine, Jennifer, Greg, Lisa, Russell, Ramona, Ray Jr., Daniel, Kathy, and Kendill Jones.
Ray has 18 grandchildren: Greg Jr., Ginger, JoAnn, Katie, Dustin, Buster, Brian, Timothy, Stacy, Brooke, MacKenzie, Parker, Kurt, Wade, Cody, Breanna, and Amanda.
Ray is also survived by his sister Ann Williams, and 2 brothers Jake Katzdorn and Peter Katzdorn.
Ray is preceded in death by his parents, Pius (Peter) and Mary Katzdorn; his wife of 65 years, Ann Katzdorn; his sister, Mary Jane; brother-in-law, Gene Williams; and sister-in-law, Mary Katzdorn; son-in-law, Richard Locke; and granddaughter, Riki Lynn.
Ray loved country music. You could always find him listening to Johnny Cash, George Jones just to name a few. Cowboy poetry got his attention in the late 1990’s. Waddie Mitchell, along with Baxter Black.
Ray Katzdorn enjoyed the song “The Walk of Life” by Dire Straits…
