Richard “Dick” Rushing passed away surrounded by loved ones, on the 6^th day of November 2023, at home in Montrose, Colorado.  He was 87 years old.

A Rosary will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the Mass following at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 17^th, 2023, at St. Philip’s Catholic Church located at 290 NW Cedar Avenue, Cedaredge, CO 81413.  The funeral will be followed by a graveside service at the Eckert Cemetery, and a luncheon at St. Philip’s Church.

Richard was born on January 27, 1936, in Van Nuys, CA to Harvey and Catherine Rushing.  He grew up in San Fernando Valley, CA.

He served our country in the Army from 1957-1959 in the 139^th Tank Battalion, D-Company, 3^rd Squad.

He married the love of his life, Muriel “Dee Dee” Rushing, on October 3, 1959.  They recently celebrated 64 years of marriage.  Together, they originally made their way to the Western Slope of Colorado in 1976. 

He was a General Contractor and contributed to many beautiful projects in both California and Colorado throughout his career.   He spent 10 years as a volunteer EMT in Crawford, CO.  He also enjoyed time as a Camp Host in Richfield, Utah for 5 years.  In his spare time, he enjoyed wood working, landscaping, and all outdoor activities.  Most of all, he cherished spending time with his family and friends. His sense of humor was something that he shared with everyone he encountered.  He was truly a legend of the Rushing family.

Richard is survived by his wife, Muriel Rushing of Montrose, CO; His six sons, Charles Rushing (Alexis Rushing) of Las Vegas, NV; Joseph Rushing (Sally Rushing) of Lompoc, CA; Patrick Rushing of Grand Junction, CO; Daniel Rushing (Shauna Rushing) of Las Vegas, NV; Robert Rushing of Paonia, CO; and Frank Rushing (Stacey Rushing) of Exeter, CA.  His Brother; Lester Rushing (Susan Rushing) of Palmdale, CA.  He also had 17 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Richard is preceded in death by both his parents, Harvey and Catherine Rushing; his daughters, Mary Rister and Elizabeth Rushing; his brothers, Mel Rushing and Gary Rushing.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
