Robert 'Bob' Mackler Stanley, 89, of Delta Colorado, peacefully passed away in his home
surrounded by his family, after a long and well lived life on Wednesday April 10, 2024.
Bob was born on June 14, 1934, to Rufus Thomson Stanley and Zurah Irene Miller in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The youngest of five children, he grew up in a small town called
Pitman, New Jersey. After Bob graduated from Pitman High School in 1952, he followed the trail
of his oldest brother Garland Miller Stanley who served in WWII in the Asiatic and Pacific
Theater receiving the Purple Heart. Bob became a member of the United States Marine Corp
for which he was very proud of, he was assigned navigator on a old propeller plane because he
knew 'Morse Code'. He flew the American Flag each Veterans Day and the Marine Corp
birthday along with Flag Day
Bob loved going camping in New Jersey, New Mexico, Colorado and with the Boy Scouts where
he earned his Eagle Award.
After returning home to Pitman he became a Boy Scott leader in New Jersey and later in
Boulder, Colorado when his Son Geoff Scott Stanley was active in Boy Scouts.
In 1959, Bob married Mary Florence Baker after meeting at the School of Mines in Socorro,
New Mexico. They went on to have two children Geoff Scott Stanley and Kathryn Stanley Jones.
Bob worked as an Electronic Manufacturers Representative before the use of the internet and
cell phones. Selling Analog, Digital, Transducers, Censors, and interfaces as face-to-face sales
to all kinds of industries like the Federal government and Bureau of Reclamation in Colorado.
He started each workday with a pocket full of dimes for the payphones along the way and a
watchful eye over the weather. Bob loved what he did for a living.
Bob now a 'Silent Key' was passionate about Amateur Radio, receiving many 'Worked All'
awards from ARRL. In his 70s Bob passed his last and most difficult test to become Amateur
Radio Operator licensed NK0G. Bob worked all states and most of international countries. He
was so excited with each new place he could reach out to.
Another passion was Magic from the time he was about 12 when Bob taught himself magic from
magazines. He was a member of The International Brotherhood of Magicians, but now a
'Broken Wand'. When his granddaughters were five years old, he did magic shows for their
birthdays.
Bob loved genealogy. He researched a lot of his family history and was so excited with each
discovery of an additional ancestor and their story. He had an interesting linage including
presidents, kings, lords, and many Pilgrims on the Mayflower.
Bob retired in 1996 after 30 years in the field.
Bob was predeceased by his parents and four older siblings.
Bob is survived by his wife Mary B Stanley, his two children Geoff Scott Stanley wife Karie of
Montrose, Kathryn Stanley Jones of Delta CO, his three grandchildren, Leann Distel husband
Tyler of Montrose, Megan Quinn husband John of Montrose, and Sarah Jones of Denton TX,
his three great-grandchildren Hannah, Molly and Wesley and three Stanley nieces Diane, Pat
and Bette.
Services will be held at Taylor Mortuary in Delta on April 20 at 2:00 PM
