Robert Lester Wilcox passed away Monday, October 2nd, 2023, at home in Delta, Colorado. He was 77 years old.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 8th, at 2 pm at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 145 W. 5th Street, Delta, Colorado. A light food reception will follow at the church.
Bob was born on July 4th, 1946, in Glendale, California, to Minnie May Elledge and Glenn Lester Wilcox. He grew up in the rural section of Arvada, Colorado and graduated from Arvada West High School in 1964. He continued his education at Denver Metropolitan, CU Boulder, and Mesa State College of Grand Junction, Colorado and graduated with a BA in Counseling Psychology.
He served our country in the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer and nuclear power trained member of ships in the Pacific and on a submarine during the Vietnam War.
He met Elizabeth Warner Hughes and they were married on September 11th, 1979. They celebrated 44 years together.
Bob and Elizabeth made their way to Delta County making rural Delta their home. He has been a resident of the Western Slope for 50 years. His chosen career path was construction and carpentry. When not working he enjoyed: leather crafting, camping, fishing, fly tying, and working the earth for gardens and orchards. He loved reading, writing and spending time with his children, grandchildren, extended family, and close friends. Some of the most memorable things are things we hear and he always commented: "If you sh-- too close to the house, you're going to step in it!"
Bob is survived by his wife, Elizabeth of Delta; his sons, Ken Wilcox of Delta, Glenn Wilcox (Geronimo Carranza) of New Mexico, and Shaman Hughes (Holly Wright) of Cedaredge. His daughters; Dylah (Brian) Wallenius of Virginia, Emily Wilcox of Delta, and Lucy (Bill) Townsend of Montrose; his brother Glenn (Janet) of Rio Vista, California and sisters; Linda (Chris) Lingana of Oregon, Kathy (Chuck) DelReal of Delta, Barbara (Roy) Reed of Utah, and Dee Dee Beatty of New Mexico; his 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Edward (Ed) and David, three sisters, Sue, Marguerite (Margie), and Martha (Cissy).
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his name to: Abraham Connection Homeless Shelter, 480 Silver Street, Delta Colorado.
