Former Delta resident Roberta “Bert” Dean Short, 81, of Las Vegas, NV passed away on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Paradise Crest Care Center in Las Vegas.
Mrs. Short was born April 7, 1940, in Jones, Oklahoma to Clarence and Margaret (Brown) Radcliff. She spent her childhood in Genoa, Colorado and attended school there until she graduated high school. Later she lived in Monterey, CA in the early 60’s before moving to Delta to be near her parents and other siblings. She was married to Zane Toombs from 1968 til 1975, whom they had a child, Michael.
She married Earl Short August 11, 1979 in Paonia, CO. She was a member of the Delta Elks Lodge #1235 for several years. Which she enjoyed traveling to many places within the Elks, like New Orleans during Mardi Gras, Seattle, Victoria and Vancouver, Canada, Honolulu, Oahu, and Kahana, Maui of the Hawaiian Islands. Which she loved the ocean after she lived in Monterey. She was an active member of the Delta PTA, whom she made friends with the Van family when they arrived from Vietnam thru the PTA. She was also a long time friend of the Jaeger family from Delta.
‘Bert’ worked many years as a waitress for Victor and Ann Knob at Terrell’s on Main St. and 4th St., as well at Captain’s Restaurant & Lounge for Mr. & Mrs. Dunfelder on Main St. and 12th St. After moving to Las Vegas, she worked as a Casino Change at Sam’s Town for 20 years before retiring.
She enjoyed horseback riding growing up in Genoa and with her son Michael on Grand Mesa, and fishing and camping at Blue Mesa in Gunnison with her husband Earl, sons Michael and Monty, and family friend Chalmer Swain. She was a huge fan of the Denver Broncos and the Las Vegas Golden Knights.
Mrs. Short is survived by her two sons, Monty Toombs/Patterson of Elbert, CO and Michael Toombs/Short of Las Vegas, NV, along with several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Short was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, her parents Clarence and Margaret Radcliff, two brothers, Clarence Jr. and Earl, and seven sisters, Arlene, Barbara, Betty, Cleta, Mary Jo, Patsy and a sister Lucille died in infancy, a step daughter Celia "Dolly" Rader.

Memorial services for Mrs. Short will be held at a later date in Delta at the Delta City Cemetery on E. 3rd St.
