Rose Marie Mattern

Rose (Tafoya) Mattern passed away at 403 Dodge St. in Delta on November 4, 2024. She was 72 years old. The Celebration of Life will be held at the Elk’s Lodge in Hotchkiss at 10:00am on Saturday, November 9, 2024, followed by a potluck for family and close friends.

Rose (Tafoya) Mattern was born February 2, 1952, in Hotchkiss, Colorado to Jennie (Ortega) Tafoya and Alfonso Tafoya Sr. She grew up in Hotchkiss and graduated from Hotchkiss High School in 1970.

Rose met Melvin Mattern, and they were married in 1970.

Rose has been a member of the community for many years. Rose retired from TDS after 38 years of service. When not working Rose enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Rose is survived by her ex-husband, Mel Mattern; her daughter, Nicole (John) Rogers; her son, Shane (Jennifer) Mattern; her sisters, Julia Leon, and Fran (Gene) Massey; her brother, Ed Tafoya; her granddaughters and their husbands, Kassie (Seth) Horvath, Kayla (Michael) Dawes, and Amery Latham; her 5 great grandkids Kayden Horvath, Aria Horvath, Kinzley Dawes, Emilia Dawes and Easton Dawes.

Rose is preceded in death by her parents, Alfonso and Jennie Tafoya; her brothers, Alfonso Jr. Tafoya, Jim Tafoya, and Robert Tafoya; her sister, Ida Aragon, Barbara Tafoya; and her daughter, Tracy Wingfield.
