Serena C. Eiler
July 12, 1953 ~ February 27, 2024
Striving for success began at birth, six weeks premature Serena was delivered on the family farm by her father on July 12, 1953.
Serena passed away on February 27, 2024, after a long heroic health battle. Her first caregiver position was at the age of 16 as a nurse’s aide in the local rural hospital in SE Colorado. Serena's 30+ years in the medical field included EMT in 1978, EMT-I in 1983, registered nurse in 1987 (her lifelong dream), and working in the Emergency Department beginning in 1988. Serena was nominated for the prestigious Nightingale Award in 1995. She was a coordinator for the VoTech EMT education department for over a year while still working for the Emergency Department. She was a mentor, friend, a compassionate advocate, and often a co-conspirator in shenanigans.
What does one say about the bestest mom a kid could have? Our mom was fiercely protective of her daughters, Crystal, and Jen as well as their families, grandbabies and great grandbaby. She was the rock that held things together on more than one occasion, and the “go to” for any weird question we may have about what to do next. If she didn’t know, she would find out.
Mom was a loving and devoted wife to Dewayne for nearly 53 years. She not only saved his life on numerous occasions but continued her nursing work at home when we were not sure if dad would be okay. Through her diligence, care and advocacy, we still have dad.
Mom never had less than two books with her at all times; had the best sense of humor; loved to travel (Vegas Baby!); loved to play games with family and spend time with her dear friends. Her dear friends, who in the last week of her life, committed to 24/7 care, company, and time with mom. We can only hope that mom saw how amazing and wonderful she was through the eyes of those that loved her so dearly. We are inspired daily by our mom and strive to be half the woman she was in this life.
Nurturer, empathizer, caregiver, supporter of all and forgiver of wrongs. This world is darker without her here.
Mom once said, the highest compliment she could receive is if someone said, “If I ever get sick, I hope Serena is there to take care of me".
Her quick wit, calm demeanor, and ability to empathize with patients and their families will be part of her legacy throughout her friends and family.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be sent to St. Jude Hospital.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
