Shirley L. Burkdoll passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at her home in Delta, Colorado with her family with her, at the age of 99 and four months.
Shirley was born April 2, 1924 on Ash Mesa, Montrose County, Colorado to Shirley A. Burch and Nettie E. Bailey Burch. The Doctor was on California Mesa delivering another child, so was unable to assist in the delivery, her father delivered her. She always said that was the reason there were no more children in that family. One sister, Edith M. Bush, two brothers, Leonard L. Burch and Marion O. Burch.
Shirley Bell, as she was known by all of her family and friends, went to school at Highland School on Ash Mesa through the 8th grade at which time she had to quit to help on the ranch. She went through the depression, WWII, and came out on top.
During WWII Shirley worked the Co-Op Gas Station in Delta pumping Gas and delivering gas and oil to Farmers and Ranchers. She had a reputation as a hard worker, dependable, reliable and friendly.
Shirley married the love of her life, Floyd S. Burkdoll, on March 8, 1945. To this union three children, Janette, John and Dale.
Shirley worked in Delta, Colorado at Kunners Canning Factory, Skyland Foods, Hesteds, McDonalds Clothing, and J.C. Pennys where she retired.
She is survived by all three of her children, Janette Springer of Delta, John and Terri Burkdoll of Montrose County. , and Dale and Lenora Burkdoll of Ridgeway, CO. 8 Grandchildren, 21 Great Grandchildren, and many Great Greats. She was so proud of her family, and thoroughly enjoyed all of her nephews and Nieces and great Nephews and Nieces.
A service in her memory will be held at a later date.
