Stacy Robert “Bob” Wagner, 86, passed away on March 21, 2025, in Delta, CO. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Dixie Wagner; his six children Dan Wagner, Stanford Holman, Angela Ingle, Mark Wagner, Thomas Holman, and Tracy Wagner; 13 grand-children, 16 great-grandchildren, and a bevy of cats he begrudgingly tolerated, yet who adored him.
Bob was born in Grand Junction, CO to Stacy and Mary Wagner on April 18, 1938. He often spoke of a childhood filled with outdoor adventures and learning the value of hard work, which was reflected in his later professional life. Bob filled a variety of professional roles, including working as a postman, a member of the national guard, and as a caregiver. However, he reflected most fondly on his time as a torpedo man in the Navy, and working for the telephone company. These jobs continued to foster his childhood love of adventure and travel.
With such a colorful life, it is no wonder Bob was known to many as a great storyteller. He seemed to have a story for every town he passed, and of people he met along the way. Some of Bob’s happiest times were behind the wheel of a car, exploring the beauty of nature, and always taking the scenic route. On the passenger seat was a well-worn book, and warm beer to greet him at the end of the day. However, Bob was truly happiest when in the company of others, particularly his family. He never met a stranger and was often seen chatting with whomever happened to be near. He was an adoring grandfather and great-grandfather, and created lifelong memories of love and happiness. He was always ready with a warm hug that smelled of Old Spice aftershave, and a “Grandpa-ism”, such as “just keep smiling” and “I’m so happy I should be triplets”. He entertained the grandkids with songs both real, like “Sweet Violets”, and created, like “Dead Skunk in the Middle of the Road.” His jokes were plentiful and silly, and always elicited his wife’s trademark long-suffering groan. His legacy will be one of unconditional love, appreciation for the beauty around you, and creating magic out of everyday moments.
A memorial service will be held at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado at a later date.
