February 25, 1944 — August 6, 2024

Cedaredge, Colorado

Stephen S. Palmer passed away peacefully on August 6th, 2024, in his home in Cedaredge, Colorado. Steve was 80 years old. He was surrounded by his loving wife, Sharon Palmer, his daughter, Leslie, and his loving family members and friends. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 13th, 2024, at the Cedaredge LDS church, followed by a graveside service/dedication. Stephen was born to Benson and Beatrice Palmer on February 25, 1944, in Colorado Springs, CO. Steve grew up in Cedaredge and graduated from Cedaredge High School in 1962. Steve met Sharon Shreeves in the spring of 1963 while branding cattle in Escalante Canyon. They began dating, fell in love, and were married on June 14th, 1964, celebrating 60 years together!

After marriage, they moved to Las Vegas, New Mexico, where Steve attended and graduated from Highlands University in the spring of 1966 with a degree in Engineering—Machinery & Woodworking. After graduation, Steve returned to Cedaredge, where he worked for "Palmer & Company" a family-owned fruit company, for many years, raising his family on a beautiful ranch surrounded by apple trees. Steve enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, and spending time with his family. He spent many weekends at the cabin on Grand Mesa and at "Cow Camp" on the Uncompahgre, creating magical memories with his family and grandchildren. He was a search and rescue member and taught Hunter's Safety for over 20 years. Steve was also a prominent member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved to serve God and the church members of the community. A memorable saying that reflected Steve's continuous journey and guided his pathway throughout his life is, "Your task is to build a better world, God said. I answered, how? This world is such a large, vast place, so complicated now, and I so small and simple am, but God in all his wisdom said build a better you!"

Stephen S Palmer is survived by his spouse, Sharon L Palmer of Cedaredge, Colorado; daughters Sandy Toolson of Grand Junction, Colorado; Leslie Johnson of Fruita, Colorado; and Sonya Palmer of Colorado Springs, Colorado; his brothers Richard Palmer of Cedaredge, Colorado, and Chuck Palmer of Montana; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
