Thomas Edward Canning passed away on February 13, 2024, at the Ferris Care Center in Grand Junction, CO. He was eighty six years old.
There was a small service at Calvary Baptist Church in Delta on Sunday, February 18, Tom’s church for several years. His daughters are planning a Celebration on Life for this summer, so that family and friends can attend.
Thomas was born on February 24, 1938 in New Jersey to Camille and Thomas Canning. He grew up in New Jersey, and moved to California when he was 27 years old. He then moved to Montrose Colorado with his wife Cecilia, and three children, Timothy, Eileen and Nancy. He built three homes in Western Colorado, and has been living in Cedaredge for over ten years.
Thomas served in the Marines, and held medals in sharp shooting. He owned a business, Valley Radiator, in Montrose for twenty years. He worked as a master carpenter for many years, helping to build some of the most beautiful homes all over Western Colorado.
Two of Tom’s passions were fly fishing, and raising, training and riding horses. So very many of his close friends and family members have learned from him and gained much joy from spending time in his beloved Colorado wilderness
Tom is survived by his three children, four granddaughters, a Great grandson and his nieces and nephews, who are beloved like his own children.
