Velma Ila Carr-Holder passed away April 11th, 2024, at her residence in Hotchkiss, Colorado. She was 85 years old.
Services will be held 2pm Friday, April 19th, 2024, at the Riverside Cemetery in Hotchkiss, CO. Reception will follow at the Heritage Hall in Hotchkiss, CO.
Velma was born May 11, 1938, to Ermer and Ila (Benton) Trowbridge in Kimberly, Idaho. The family moved to Colorado in 1940. Velma lived the rest of her life in Hotchkiss. Velma went to school in Lazear and graduated from Hotchkiss High in 1956.
Velma married Donald Carr in June of 1956. Donald passed away in September of 1992.
Velma was married to Richard G. Holder for a short time until his death in 2001.
Velma was a member of the Eastern Star and Past Mother Advisor for Rainbow Girls. She was past President of Senior Citizens and Black Mesa Cattle Women. Velma was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Velma and Donald owned Carr Fruit Orchards and ran cattle together. After Donald’s death Velma enjoyed traveling to Nova Scotia, Russia, Alaska, and other states.
Velma loved to sing and sang at many funerals, weddings, and nursing homes.
Velma is survived by sons: Michael (Chandra) Carr of Encampment, WY; David (Carrie) Carr of Grand Junction, CO; two daughters: Janie (Rick) Vierra of Hotchkiss, CO; Jerri (Dan) Robinson of Hotchkiss, CO; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a brother: Donald Trowbridge of Humbolt, KS.
Velma is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and granddaughter Jamie Carr.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
